After the Office Party...Part 2
Dear Reader,
AFTER THE OFFICE PARTY… was supposed to be just a small flash fiction story. I didn’t expect to write a part 2 and next a part 3. But, there was enough of you who demanded to know what went down at the party and what happened after (I’ll leave that for part 3) that I had to write it. I didn’t even give Tara a name until now because I wanted it all to be mysterious and wanted to leave it to the readers imagination.
So, feel free to like, share and comment.
Enjoy and until next time…
Love Always,
J.L.
AFTER THE OFFICE PARTY….PART 2
I’ll stay?
To do what? What did I hope to happen? If you’ve ever watched any episode of Greys Anatomy, Scandal or any other Shonda Rhimes created show, you would know that work romances are messy. They’re beyond messy. They’re the reasons we have those ridiculous hour long sexual harassment meetings; they’re the reason why Monica Lewinsky can’t ever work in politics!
I had a lot to lose, like this job that is currently my only source of income! I stared blankly at the computer screen because I had no work to do right now except overthink every decision that led to this moment. What should I do?! I toyed with my phone. Jack Hernandez was every girls fantasy; tall, dark, handsome, smart, and rich. The last part didn’t really matter to me, but he was New York City’s most eligible bachelors so there was always a line of gold diggers waiting for him.
My eyes stung from exhaustion as I scrolled through an article about Jack. The picture of him in his suit looking stern made my blood boil a little hotter. My eyes strayed to his hands which made me think about the office party:
I had been hiding from the noise and celebration because although we didn’t have to work, I wanted to prove myself. So I hid in Jacks office, away from the party. I knew I’d have the office to myself because Jack was too busy mingling with colleagues and clients.
Or so I thought.
“Are you alone in my office often, Miss Lotte?”
I was too engrossed in the contract I was reading that I hadn’t heard him come in. His tone told me I was in trouble.
“Shit,” I said before realizing I was talking to my boss. “I mean…not shit! What I meant to say was—“
“Enough.” He waved a hand like a king bored with his jester. “What are you doing in here?”
I held up a thick pile of paper. “Working on the contracts for the new convention center.” I pushed up my glasses that I felt sliding down my nose.
His brown eyes squinted in my direction. Oh god, did I have something stuck between my teeth?
When he continued to stare, it was my turn to scold him. “Well, say something.”
“Those aren’t due for a few weeks.”
I sighed. “I know but it’s the first real assignment you gave me that’s all mine that’s not just grunt work and I just don’t want to drop the ball.”
He stern expression softened. “I know you won’t drop the ball,” he gestured with his chin. “Why don’t you enjoy the party?”
“No one here likes me.”
Jack rolled his eyes. “You’re wrong, people don’t like me. I’m the boss. People hate the boss.” He walked over to the chair and just for a split second I lost my train of thought. I looked up at him. “Get out of my seat, Miss Lotte.”
I blinked, slowly coming back to reality. “Oh, sorry, Mr. Hernandez,” I threw out my apology as I scrambled to clear my stuff off his desk.
“Call me, Jack.”
I stopped mid scrambled. “Jack?”
He squinted at me again. “You did know my first name?”
I laughed nervously. “Of course I did, it’s just…” I shrugged. “I thought you hated the first name basis thing.”
“What do you mean? The others call me Jack.”
“And you cringe every time.” His eyes widened. “Not overtly,” I added. “It just looks like you have a mini seizure.”
His lips twitched as if he wanted to laugh. “I feel good knowing I’m having not overtly mini seizures.”
“And you don’t even call me by my name so…it just feels weird.”
He nodded slowly. “Tara, why don’t you put your stuff down and have a seat. Would you like a drink?”
This was the first time he said my name and it sent a chill down my spine. “No, thank you, Jack.” I gave him a pointed look. “I think it’s best I head home.” He nodded slowly, a forlorn look on his face. Did he want to me to stay? “On second thought, maybe just one drink.”
He got up and walked over to the mini bar in his office. “So, why doesn’t anyone like you?”
I sighed, set my things on the small coffee table and took a seat on the tufted leather sofa by the bar. “Because YOU hate me!”
He had an incredulous look on his face as he clicked his tongue. “I don’t hate you.”
“You’re the boss, so everyone wants to make you happy. Making you happy is to treat me as if I’m invisible.”
He handed me a drink of something brown. I wasn’t a drinker, suffice it to say that I couldn’t tell you the difference between whiskey and gin. I tentatively took a sip. I held my grimace as I tried to ignore the burning sensation running down my chest.
“What’s wrong?” He asked.
“Nothing…” I sniffed the drink. “Is this poison?”
“You don’t have to drink it.”
“It just…I’m wondering why are you being nice to me right now. Judas was probably nice to Jesus before he betrayed him.”
Jack raised an eyebrow. “You’re Jesus in that scenario? I like that you think of yourself so highly,” he said as he took a seat next to me.
I laughed. “I knew that sounded conceited as soon as it came out of my mouth.” I shook my head. “But why be nice to me now? Oh, no…am I being fired?” I panicked.
“No, you’re not being fired.” He laughed. “I…I…” Jack was uncharacteristically uncomfortable and I hate to say I found it charming. “I just wanted you to know that I think you’re far from invisible.”
I sat up straighter, thinking that I misheard him. “What am I then?” I whispered. This felt like one of my fantasies come to life. I was afraid that I was about to wake up in pile of blankets kissing my pillow.
Jack smirk, throwing back his drink. “You’re not going to make it easy.” He groaned.
“I just don’t know what you’re trying to say,” I confessed.
“Tara! You’re smart, beautiful, funny, talented!” A cheer from the rowdy office party outside startled us.
I glanced at my glass. “I think I’m hallucinating…you think I’m smart?”
He did that sexy lip biting thing and I almost melted on the spot.
He leaned in. “Very.”
I leaned in as well, closing my eyes grabbing his tie, pulling him close and planting my lips on his.
He didn’t kiss back.
Struck by the realization that I fucked things up tremendously, I shot up from my seat. “I’m so sorry, Jack. I don’t know what happened. You were being so great—“
Jack jumped up after me. “Tara, I’ve been wanting to kiss you.”
“What?” I felt my heart racing. What was happening? How much did I drink?!
Jacks lips were set in a grim line, his eyebrows scrunched low as if he were concentrating. “Now, listen. I’m going to kiss you, and imma kiss you good. You say the word and I’ll stop.” Say the word? At this moment I couldn’t squeak if I wanted to. He got closer, his hands cup my face as he came down to meet my lips. The fire erupted in my belly, fueling my veins. I tasted the whiskey…or gin on his tongue. I felt him pulling me to the leather couch. His hands tangled in my hair, gently tightening his hold. I moaned softly against his lips, following him.
I pulled back slightly. “Jack, what are we doing?”
He kissed my neck, my eyes fell shut as I reveled at the pleasure. “We’re making out,” he whispered against my neck, making the goosebumps appear.
“Oh, okay, just checking.”
Jacks hands travelled from my hair to my waist, pulling me closer, my breast against his hard chest. “Jack…” I was breathless but I had a question rambling around in my head, I was just so caught up in the feeling that I couldn’t remember what I wanted to ask.
His hand made it to my thighs, making their way behind me and gripping my ass. “I want you to lay back,” he said.
He took off his suit jacket and I did as I was told. He loosened his sleeves, rolling them up. Jack leaned over me, continuing his onslaught of kisses on my neck…the tops of my breasts…his hand making its way up my skirt. I felt his hesitation. My hips moved against his hand, urging him on. Jack pulled my panties to the side, running a finger down my slit. My head fell back as his touch grew bolder, with his rogue finger rubbing my clit. I didn’t care how loud I moaned; the party was so loud they couldn’t hear me even if I tried. Jacks mouth trailed down my neck, stopping at my breasts. Jack nipped at them through my blouse.
With his free hand, he unbutton my blouse and pulled down my bra, freeing my nipples so he could take them in his mouth. He was the devil. His mouth was pure sin and I didn’t want it to stop. I almost came on the spot.
I felt myself so close. My hips moved against his finger. Jack could probably sense how close I was. I felt one finger enter me.
There was a knock on the door and we froze. “Don’t move, don’t say a word,” Jack whispered. “Yes?!” he yelled at the door. Jack inserted another finger inside me and began his quest to get me off. I bit my lip to hold back my moan.
“Jack, you coming back out?” I recognized the voice of one of the senior partners.
“I’m looking over one of the contracts, I’ll be out in a second!”
His fingers pumped faster and faster. “Tara, I need you to come…I want you to come,” he whispered. His words almost got me. His lips began sucking on my nipple and I lost it. His lips covered mine as a moan began to escape. I let the sensation ride my body.
“Oh, Oh okay. You wanna unlock the door?” the partner asked.
“I’ll be out in a minute!” Jack yelled.
I felt my body go limp. i couldn’t move. I can’t believe I let Jack Hernandez finger me in his office with a party going on!!!!
Jack began to dress me; placing my bra back, buttoning my blouse. All of a sudden I felt like we did something wrong. I closed my legs and pulled my skirt back down.
This wasn’t wrong. What we did felt right. We stared at each other in shock. I thought I saw regret start to set in in his eyes, so I leaned over and planted a kiss on him. “We still have time, I can do something for you— I mean to you…I’m sorry, I wanted to be sexy right now and I came off as a total weirdo.”
“Believe me, you’re sexy without even trying but,”
Ah, there it is…this was all to good to be true.
I sat back, proximity to him was a bad thing. Tara! start moving, get your things, you’re out of here! my mind yelled.I began to collect my things. “Yeah, I’m sorry, Jack. This won’t happen again.”
“No, Tara, it’s not like that. I just have to get back to the party. Maybe…we can meet up another time?”
I nodded. “Yeah, sure.”
“I’m going to exit first, give it like five to ten minutes. I don’t want the office to start rumors or anything.” he planted a chaste kiss on my lips which felt weird after what we just did.
******
“Tara?” Jacks voice brought me back to the present. “I’m ready for you.”
I watch the senior partner walk away without a backwards glance. I nodded, bringing my note pad in with me.
“I didn’t think you were going to wait,” Jack admitted as he poured a drink and handed it to me.
“I wanted to see what would happen if I stayed.”
He turned towards me. “What do you want to happen?”
I couldn’t help the grin that spread across my face. I tilted my head. “I think last week when we left off, it was your turn. Have a seat, Mr. Hernandez.”
